The Feakins Foundation scholarship has had a very positive impact on my life. I have gotten the opportunity to meet great people who want to help others realize their dreams. Today, attending college can be very expensive and many times it requires the need of scholarships and loans in order to attend. This scholarship has allowed me to further continue my education by reducing the costs of tuition, which will also be a huge benefit for me later in the future. I am very thankful to Oliver and Nadina and the foundation’s board members for providing me with this scholarship.

This past year has been life-changing for me. If anyone had told me over a year ago that I was going to find myself working as a paralegal in a law firm while advocating for immigrants in my community, I probably would have looked at them in sheer disbelief. I tend to be a creature of habit and do not embrace change easily, so after working in the educational field with children for about nine years, it was a little intimidating to branch out into something completely different. Little did I know that searching for a bilingual job would bring me to where I am today; working at a law firm and switching my major from Early Childhood Education to Paralegal Studies.I am beyond grateful for the opportunity the Feakins Foundation Scholarship provided me with this past semester to be able to continue my education after a two-year break. I’ve discovered a whole new world of opportunities in the Paralegal world that I am very excited to dive into. In the Spring of 2018, I took Intro to Paralegal Studies which provided a solid background and foundation into the program and I truly enjoyed it. Even though I already have a full-time job in the area I am studying, it is allowing me to become better equipped to handle different situations at work and continue to expand my knowledge to better help my clients and community. Doing something I feel passionate about as a career is an absolute blessing, and as I slowly work towards my degree I will continue to be challenged and empowered as I put what I learn into practice. Being an immigrant in this country is not always easy, but with the help of a loving and supportive community anything is possible.

I cannot be more thankful to the Feakin’s Foundation for providing a scholarship that has assisted me in being one step closer to my goal. Being one of the recipients of the scholarship has allowed me to continue my education without having to take semesters off in between just to be able to afford school while also working full time. Thanks to the scholarship I was able to complete all my general education courses I needed faster than I would have been able to otherwise, since I was able to take more courses per semester. It is because of the Feakin’s Foundation that I was able to complete my last semester at HACC this fall just in time to be able to transfer to Central Penn College to finish my education as a Physical Therapy Assistant. I am very grateful to the Foundation for making it possible for me to continue my education and for being just one year away from graduating in a lot less time than I would have thought possible!
